The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has dismissed widespread reports claiming that it has suspended admissions into its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme due to quota-related issues.

The clarification came after rumours circulated on social media alleging that the university would halt MBBS admissions for several years and restructure its medical programme to address an admission quota overshoot.

Responding to concerns raised by prospective applicants, the university described the claims as false.

"It's not true. We have advertised the MB;BS programme for the 2026/2027 academic session and the registration for the 2026/2027 Post-UTME screening exercise is ongoing," the university said in a statement signed by Kunle Akogun, Director of Corporate Affairs, for Management.

The statement was issued in response to a social media user who urged the institution to clarify the reports so that candidates seeking admission into Medicine and Surgery could make informed decisions before the admission process progresses.

The university's response confirms that applications into the MBBS programme remain open and that the ongoing Post-UTME registration for the 2026/2027 academic session has not been affected.

The clarification comes amid growing speculation following reports that the College of Health Sciences was considering measures to address student indexing and quota-related concerns. However, the university's latest statement indicates that such reports should not be interpreted as a suspension of admissions.

Prospective candidates are advised to rely on official information released through the University of Ilorin's verified communication channels and disregard unverified claims circulating on social media.
