Kano State Polytechnic (KANOPOLY) Secures NBTE Accreditation For SIWES

The Management of Kano State Polytechnic received an accreditation team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on the Students Industrial Working Experience Scheme (SIWES) resource inspection/accreditation exercise.

Speaking during the visit, the team leader, Mr. Dauda Baba who is the Board's SIWES Coordinator expressed the commitment of the Board towards ensuring that Polytechnic students concentrate more on technical know-how as well as practical experience and skills acquisition.

He stated that the exercise covers three (3) main areas; Physical Facilities, Personnel, and other resources which comprise the student handbook, logbook as well and SIWES briefing (Strategic Plan).

Mr. Dauda commended the effort of the Management in ensuring that all the necessary arrangements and other facilities needed have been put in place. However, he made some recommendations that as a new trend of the Board, all correspondences between Institutions and the Board are now digitalized, therefore, there is a need to provide standard Internet facilities at the Central SIWES Unit. Other recommendations included the need to provide a four-year strategic work plan by the unit and to review the student logbook to a standard format.

The Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA in his response, acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the Board under the able leadership of Prof. Idris Bugaje for coming up with various paradigm shift programs towards skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development.

He reiterated his administration's commitment to improving skills acquisition among students and good people of Kano State through the Entrepreneurship Education Directorate and Skills Development Centre.

He assured the team of his management readiness to address all the recommendations raised by the team and he instantly directed the Central SIWES Coordinator, Dr. Badamasi Inuwa to start action.
