House Of Representative Approves Four New Federal Universities Across Nigeria
In a move to expand access to higher education and promote academic excellence across the country, the House of Representatives has approved the establishment of four new Federal Universities in Nigeria.
The approval came during Tuesday’s plenary session, following the adoption of the report presented by Hon. Abubakar Fulata (APC–Jigawa), Chairman of the House Committee on University Education.
According to the report, the creation of these new institutions aims to bridge educational gaps, promote regional development, and enhance specialized training across different fields.
Details of the Newly Approved Federal Universities
1. Federal University of Technology, Kaduna
Established through the repeal of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna Act.
The university will focus on science, technology, and innovation, providing hands-on training to prepare students for the modern workforce.
2. Federal University, Biu, Borno State
Established by repealing the Nigerian Army University, Biu (Act 2020).
The new university will serve as a center for academic and technological advancement in the Northeast region.
3. Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri, Imo State
Upgraded from the Alvan Ikoku College of Education.
It will focus on teacher education, producing qualified educators through specialized programmes that enhance classroom delivery and educational quality.
4. Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano State
A newly established institution aimed at developing professional teachers and educational leaders in Northern Nigeria.
